These news stories, they will perhaps be read histories at some time we may not be here ourselves. That is what we see but as though we do not see, now. Some lines of histories are being made with us, positive at last.
It would perhaps be sung, maybe with equal or even more legend reckon with Obafemi Awolowo’s own tenacity — perhaps it would be sung, this unrelenting persistency of General Buhari to the Presidency four times over 13 years, and winning after all! If Nigeria would remember the determinedness and focus of a former Head of State President elect.
Perhaps it would be told, too, with as much or maybe greater acclaim than the June 12, 1993 gallant free and fair success of MKO Abiola — it would perhaps be told, this glaring need of a man we had thought through 13 years past we never wanted! If Nigeria would remember the stress-less success of General Buhari as against incumbent President Jonathan in March 28, 2015 General Elections.
Maybe it would be said, also, with similar or even better fame than the most famed bloodless, peaceful era transitions of our time — General Olusegun Obasanjo’s handover to Mallam Shehu Shagari regime in 1979, and General Abdusalam Abubakar’s handover to Rtd General Obasanjo’s government in 1999 — maybe it would be talked a long time to come, this bloodless, chaos-free announcement of winner President Elect General Muhammadu Buhari! If Nigeria would remember the noteworthy diplomacy and the perfectness of timing, in avoiding landmark choas, of Professor Atahiru Jega in his announcing — and of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in his congratulatory message.
When histories are made, they may not require atomic bombs, or machine guns, or nothing for notice … Maybe, histories are being made. With Buhari.
